Rocanegra

Just 20 minutes from the village of Santa Pau stands Rocanegra, a volcano with a horseshoe-shaped crater and of great scientific and educational interest due to its singular morphology and constituent rocks. In fact, it is now thought to be the youngest volcano in the area as ash from the volcano Croscat – formerly regarded as the youngest – has been found underneath the pyroclastic deposits emitted by Rocanegra.

The best way to view this volcano is to visit the former quarry in one of its flanks, where the pyroclastic deposits (lapilli and blocks) that form its crater have been left exposed.
