To the south-west of the district in a large agricultural valley: Vall d'en Bas.

This valley became a barrage lake a long time ago, after the lava flow from the volcanoes in the area created a kind of natural dam on the Fluvià river at Els Tossols (Olot).

This flat valley is the largest and most fertile in the whole of Catalonia and is home to picture-postcard villages, such as Els Hostalets d'en Bas, Joanetes and El Mallol. It is also one of the best areas in La Garrotxa to enjoy cycling holidays because of its flatness.

El Carrilet greenway crosses the valley from north to south, and the most mountainous part, such as Llancers mountain range and Puigsacalm mountain, is the best for routes on foot. The paved trail linking Vic and Olot, especially the Les Marrades section that starts alongside Els Hostalets d'en Bas, is a path worth taking, not only to admire this colossal feat of engineering, but also to enjoy the beech forests, the plateau used as grazing land, the waterfalls and the panoramic views from the area of Falgars, right in the heart of the Transversal mountain range.

The outline of Puigsacalm mountain, the highest peak in La Garrotxa, looks down over a valley dotted with cropland, country houses and agrifood producers. Vall d'en Bas preserves a great agricultural and rural spirit that can be seen up close in Can Trona, Culture and Nature Centre, a museum and cultural facility located in the heart of the valley.
