Demanding route through the summits that surround the Mare de Déu del Mont, with panoramic views of much of the Garrotxa and the Alt Empordà.
The excursion brings us to the places that enraged Jacint Verdaguer, who from the same sanctuary of the Mont was inspired to write one of his most popular poems, Canigó.
To reach the starting point, we will have to go to the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Mont. You can reach it from Cabanelles (by the turnoff of the Hostal de Can Vilà, on the road from Besalú to Figueres) or from the village of Beuda (passing through Segueró). The two tracks are asphalted.
On the rocky summit of the Mont, there is the sanctuary of the Virgin Mary, as well as a restaurant and a hostel. We will enjoy good views of the Empordà plain, Roses Bay, Pla de l'Estany, Bassegoda, Tossa de Espinau and many places of Alta Garrotxa and the Pyrenees.
From the summit, we will take the descent path, as indicated by the start and end of the route flag. After a few meters we will find an indication of the route that goes to Falgars and Sant Llorenç de Sous. We will follow the green and orange marks until arriving at Falgars; We will also find the yellow marks of the Itinerànnia Senders Network.
The path is arranged with stones in the form of a climb or a ladder. We will arrive at a crossroads and we will continue along a flattened path walking along the Finestrelles pass, between the pine grove of Rajolet.
We will start descending through this obac side, where we will find a very large beech, about five diameter pits, called beech Gros. At the end of the trail we will come to a track that we will take to the left for a hundred meters until reaching the Bac fields, now abandoned.
We continue along the track and, later on, we will find an old lime kiln on the right, and we will continue to find the holm oak of the Holy Trinity, named after the three branches that are born three meters long.
Following the same path, we will find the source of Falgars (or of the Mine or Irrigation), arranged with troughs; After passing the fountain, we will cross a fence.
We will reach the old Falgars pantry (with a lintel that dates from 1798). From here we have a good panoramic view of the Empordà plain. Nearby is the chapel of the Annunciation and the most Falgars.
A little later, on the right, we will find a thick oak, about seven diameter pits, called Socablanc oak. We will find a banner and we will continue towards Sant Llorenç de Sous. (We can also go back to the Mont the same way where we came from.)
We take the road that goes up for a couple of kilometers until reaching the cliffs of Rocapastora, where we find a fountain. We will continue along the road until reaching the monastery of Sant Llorenç de Sous. We will follow the indication that it goes to the Mont.
We will take a climbing path that will continue along a holm oak forest, until the path goes one-sided, at the collar of Les Sorreres. We will continue along a path that goes upwards through chests, formed by the rainwater, which sometimes make the bare rock appear. We will reach the road, we will climb a few meters along the asphalt until we get to the bend, where we will take a path up to the road junction, and we will finish climbing to the road that goes under the sanctuary.
