The church of La Mare de Déu del Guilar was founded by the knight Simó de Balbs in 1334 as a chapel for the castle of the same name.

This walk starts in Argelaguer and climbs up to the church of Mare de Déu del Guilar after a long stretch along the banks of the river Fluvià.

Some of the most interesting sites along this route are in the village of Argelaguer and include the fortified house or castle of Montpalau and the churches of Santa Maria d'Argelaguer and Mare de Déu del Guilar.
