- La Garrotxa hosts an international press trip on ecotourism
From October 16 to 19, two sustainable tourism professionals from the Swedish magazine Voyage and the blog This Wildlife of Mine visited La Garrotxa to learn about the ecotourism offer in the region.
From 16 to 19 October, Turisme Garrotxa, together with the Consell Comarcal de la Garrotxa, organised the visit of two professionals specialising in sustainable travel: journalist Yvonne Gull, from the Swedish magazine Voyage, and content creator Dearbhaile Ní Dhubhghaill, from the blog This Wildlife of Mine, dedicated to responsible tourism and experiences in nature.
This action is part of a programme promoted by Soy Ecoturista, in collaboration with Turespaña and the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, with the aim of making part of the ecotourism offer of la Garrotxa known to media aware of this market segment.
During their stay, the two guests were able to discover the natural, cultural and gastronomic wealth of the region. In Olot, they took a tour of the city centre, visiting the modernist façades, Plaça Mercat, traditional shops, Espai Cràter and the Fira de Sant Lluc. They also enjoyed a guided tour of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park and the old town of Santa Pau, and cycled a section of the Carrilet Greenway. The programme also included visits to the basalt flows of Castellfollit de la Roca and Sant Joan les Fonts.
The discovery of the tourist offer was completed with tastings of local products and meals of Volcanic Cuisine, highlighting the relationship between landscape, product and gastronomy.
The reception of media specialised in ecotourism is one of the usual actions of Turisme Garrotxa and is part of the regional tourism strategy linked to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism 2021-2025. This strategy aims, on the one hand, for the media, both national and international, to publish quality reports on the tourist offer of the region, and on the other hand to deseasonalise and decentralise demand.
