Located to the north of the Natural Park, Sant Joan les Fonts has a combination of nature and culture that makes it a very unique village. It is home to a large number of points of interest, from spectacular basalt formations to Romanesque buildings.
The itinerary is flat and short, ideal for strolling through the heart of La Fageda d'en Jordà, admiring its enchantment and immersing itself fully in its peculiar atmosphere.
The Carrilet is for walkers and cyclists only and follows the route of the narrow gauge railway that once linked Olot and Girona.
On clear days on certain stretches of this walk you can look eastwards and enjoy the views that extend right across the Empordà plain as far as the Mediterranean Sea.
This route will take us to one of the most remarkable buildings among the witnesses of Romanesque art and an exceptional pilgrimage center in the Besalú county, Sant Sepulcre de Palera.
Maià de Montcal and Beuda are both good examples of La Garrotxa’s valuable cultural heritage and their wonderful Romanesque churches are the perfect excuse to visit this part of La Garrotxa.
