- The Can Serra car park, one of the most used to visit the Fageda d'en Jordà, will be improved
While the works last, the main alternatives to access the central area of the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone will be the use of public transport or access on foot from other car parks.
This coming month of April, it is planned that the reorganization works of the parking and picnic area of Can Serra, in the Fageda d'en Jordà, will begin. The work will focus on improving access, achieving landscape integration of the space in the protected environment where it is located and increasing safety for users of the area, one of the most frequented areas of the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone from the Garrotxa
The programming of these works, which will be carried out by the public company Infraestructures.cat, has been established taking into account the period of the year in which the Fageda d'en Jordà receives less tourist flow. However, this is a Nature Reserve that attracts visitors throughout the year, so the closure of the main parking area of the Fageda d'en Jordà for works will imply a change in the mobility alternatives of visitors
Both the Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Natural Park itself, as well as the municipalities in the area, the Regional Council of la Garrotxa, Turisme Garrotxa and all the agents involved in the territory have been working in a coordinated manner for months in order to offer visitors and to the local population sustainable, effective and environmentally friendly access roads.
The main mobility alternative that will be launched shortly, adapted to the needs of users, is a new bus service, operated by Teisa, which will run the route Les Preses – Olot – Fageda d'en Jordà – Santa Pau, thus covering some of the most touristic spots in the region during weekends, holidays and public holidays. It will have a high frequency of passage, especially on the days with the greatest influx of visitors, so that it is a real and sustainable alternative, more economical and effective than the private vehicle.
There will be three main free parking areas: one in Santa Pau, located next to the municipality's tourism office, one in Olot, located above the bus station, and the other in the municipality of Les Preses, which will soon be enabled, taking into account that the Bracons tunnels are the main access route for visitors from outside the region who arrive in La Garrotxa. The user can leave the private vehicle in any of these three areas and take the bus, which from Les Preses will pass through the center of Olot and through the central area of the Natural Park and will reach the center of Santa Pau, where will start the reverse route.
The date of entry into operation, as well as the timetables, frequencies and ways to acquire transport tickets will be announced soon.
It should be remembered that apart from this new service, Teisa maintains, from Monday to Friday, the regular service Olot – La Fageda – Santa Pau.
Beyond the use of public transport, visitors will be able to appreciate the possibility of making use of the public car parks located around the central area of the Natural Park.

The access of people with reduced mobility to the Fageda d'en Jordà by vehicle will continue to work in the usual way, that is to say, they will need to request authorization from the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone, with prior accreditation of the degree of disability. Authorizations must be requested in advance by sending an email to [email protected] at least 24 hours in advance.
Finally, it should be emphasized that, while the works are in progress, the Can Serra information center will continue to provide its usual service and the adjacent public toilets will remain open.
On the other hand, the picnic area in the Can Serra area will be set up in a temporary location, and the loading and unloading point for school and visitor buses will also be temporarily relocated, in order to guarantee safe mobility in this space When the time comes to start the works, within this first quarter of the year, information will be given about the new spaces mentioned and they will be signposted.
These actions are part of a long-term strategy to improve tourist mobility based on the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, a work that is carried out in coordination with the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of Garrotxa and the department of Territory of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Ministry of Mobility of the Regional Council of Garrotxa, Turisme Garrotxa, the Tourism Mobility Board of Garrotxa and the different town councils and public transport operators in the territory.
