Information

A team of architects, RCR, has placed La Garrotxa at the forefront of architecture. Their unique skill of marrying the landscape and architecture has been rewarded by many different awards, including the prestigious Pritzker Prize (2017).

The style of work of the team, formed by Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, is marked by geography, landscape and culture. This undertaking has resulted in architecture that honours and values its origins, whilst enjoying a significant amount of formal freedom that is able to combine the interpreting of the location with worldwide references and influences, turning their designs into universal architecture.

La Garrotxa is home to different examples of the work of this team of architects. As well as Les Colls restaurant and pavilions (private spaces), Olot also hosts the Tossols-Basil bathing pavilion, a discreet, elegant building located alongside the Fluvià river that adapts to the course of the river and the colours of its environment, and the athletics stadium, hidden in the middle of a hundred-year-old oak forest with facilities that blend in with the surrounding topography.

A short distance away in Les Preses is Pedra Tosca Park, where the team worked on the landscape to mark out a route into an area of dry-stone walls. The work highlights the rugged nature of the environment and is a reminder of what mankind has done in this area. Another facility that can be visited is Can Serra Information Centre. Located in the car park at La Fageda d’en Jordà beech forest, it really blends in well with the countryside. It is currently home to one of the information facilities of La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park.

Finally, you can also visit the multicolored exterior of "El petit Comte" kindergarten in Besalú".
