Grau d'Escales is a relatively easy pass (grau = ‘pass’ and escala = ‘step’ in Catalan) between two abrupt cliffs from where there are good views of the Salt dels Lliberals (Liberal’s Leap).
Ascension to El Talló, a demanding peak and a great hiking tradition in the Alta Garrotxa area.
The need to cultivate the territory has been a transforming element of the landscape. The landscape of Les Preses stands out for its scenic attractions. Plains and mountains alternate harmoniously with croplands and forests.
This route explores the village of Santa Pau, blessed with a rich heritage – part of which is included on other routes – that stretches back to medieval times and the Remences peasant’s revolt and up to the 19th century Carline Wars.
Although some structures from the 11th century do still stand, most of the surviving medieval buildings in La Garrotxa date from the 12th and 13th centuries.
Walking route to Virgen del Monte, the church of late Romanesque style Sanctuary, dated from the beginning of 20th century.
Castellfollit de la Roca sits atop a basalt cliff formed by two overlapping lava flows. Along the route, you will be given an up-close view of a basalt cliff that is spectacular not only because of its height, but also the houses built right on its edge.
A walk through some ot the prettiest corners of the Vall de Bianya, following the course of the Santa Lucia river until reahing the Rovira bridge, apart from being able to visit the church of Sant Pere Despuig.
