The volcanoes that erupted thousands of years ago in what today is La Garrotxa region gave rise to great lava flows that occupied the bottoms of the local river valleys.
This route is an agreeable stroll through the shady woods of Clot Mal, a stream that runs down from the western side of the slopes around the church of Freixe.
The church of La Mare de Déu del Guilar was founded by the knight Simó de Balbs in 1334 as a chapel for the castle of the same name.
Walking route to Virgen del Monte, the church of late Romanesque style Sanctuary, dated from the beginning of 20th century.
This is a very long circular route that allows you to reach La Miana and return via a different path. If we want to do shorter sections to Sagrat Cor, Sant Silvestre el Mor, Sant Fructós, etc... you can do a round trip route.
The Ruta de la Capelleta takes you to the remains of this small church (or chapel) that was once a popular place of worship for local people. Today, it is semi-derelict.
A team of architects, RCR, has placed La Garrotxa at the forefront of architecture. Their unique skill of marrying the landscape and architecture has been rewarded by many different awards, including the prestigious Pritzker Prize (2017).
Baumes de Caxurma are a series of natural caves formed in the sedimentary rocks that lie to the south of the basalt cliffs of Castellfollit de la Roca. The largest cave is around 400 m in length.
